Exciting news! People Magazine Exclusively Announces 2016 Statue Winners!

Princess Grace Award winners Leslie Odom Jr. and Camille A. Brown will both take home the 2016 Statue Awards at this year’s Annual Gala in New York City! The Statue Award, the Foundation’s highest honor, is reserved for past Princess Grace Award winners who have distinguished themselves in their artistic disciplines since receiving their initial Award. Recipients are presented with a bronze statuette of Princess Grace created by Dutch artist Kees Verkade.

Leslie, who won his initial Award for Theater in 2002, currently plays Aaron Burr in New York's hottest Broadway show, Hamilton. After making his Broadway debut at the age of 17, he has gone on to become a successful recording artist and respected stage and screen actor. He is a Grammy Award-winner as a principal soloist on Hamilton’s Original Broadway Cast Recording, which won the 2015 award for Best Musical Theater Album and his self-titled album will be released in June.

Camille, who received a Princess Grace Award for Choreography in 2006 and a Works in Progress Residency in 2013, has since been honored multiple times for her original and daring works. She has won the 2016 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award, the 2016 Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2015 Doris Duke Artist Award. She utilizes dance and dialogue- with the use of musical composition, theater, and visual art to make a personal claim on both history and the present through the lens of a modern black female perspective.

Leslie and Camille will join the fifty-one other illustrious artists who have received this award including; filmmakers Cary Fukunaga and Greg Mottola, prima ballerinas Gillian Murphy and Tiler Peck, directors Anna Shapiro and Tina Landau, dancer David Hallberg, screenwriter Tony Kushner, creator of "SpongeBob SquarePants", Stephen Hillenberg and actor and star of Star Wars Oscar Isaac.
