Jon Chu in Talks to Direct New Woody Harrelson Project!
Film director, Jon M. Chu is on a role! On June 12, it was announced that Jon is in final talks with Lionsgate to helm, “Now You See Me 2,” which is set to begin shooting this fall and will star Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Mark Ruffalo who will reprise their roles from last year’s mystery-thriller, which grossed $350 million worldwide.
The 2001 Princess Grace Awards winner is best known for directing the movies Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and G.I Joe: Retaliation, which starred Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson. Due to the film’s tremendous success at the box office, Jon is currently negotiating a deal with Paramount Pictures and MGM to direct G.I. Joe 3.
In late May, Jon wrapped the live-action adaptation of the classic Hasbro cartoon, Jem and the Holograms, a musical fantasy film based on the 1980s television show. The film stars actresses Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis and newcomer Aubrey Peeples as Jem.
While this year Jon has branched out to more mainstream films, The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (commonly called The LXD) director believes his creative inspiration is rooted in dance. “There's something about the dancers that motivate me the most,” Jon explains. “I don't know if it's just dance, but I do think that the dancers are amazing artists, and every time I meet a new dancer, that triggers something in my brain, and I'm more creative than I could ever be. When I feel that creativity burst, I go with it.
